Back from Copenhagen
I’m back from Copenhagen, where my open-air exhibition Rites of Life has just been installed at Nytorv Square, next to Strøget, the famous pedestrian street.
During the weeks leading up to the exhibition, with all the stress of finishing everything on time, I thought more than once about what I am actually doing, if it is worth it all. But when everything was finally up, and the lights had been turned on, it was a great moment to see all the people entering the square to see the exhibition.
Building an exhibition like this is no small enterprise. 10 tonnes of exhibition screens were transported by truck from Uppsala to Copenhagen, where a six-man crew spent two days setting them up. In the square we also have an information centre in which you can watch a video about the project, browse through books and catalogues and try to win one of my photographs. It is open every day and taken care of by Julie, Dina, Sean and Dann, the wonderful Danish staff.
Yes, a lot of work, but also tremendously rewarding. I have been on site for several days and talked to lots of people and the response has been overwhelming.
And I did also manage to take some time off, touring Danish Jutland and Funen for a few days.
